Warehouse Technician

The Role

This is a mid- level position within our Technical Warehouse that would suit someone who has proven experience of audio, lighting and AV equipment, with a keen interest and aptitude for event production, who is technically minded and has a flair for all things I.T.

The Warehouse consists of high value technical equipment (lighting, sound, rigging, AV), a scenic workshop, events furniture and a wide range of sundry items used for specific client events. Our productions range from product launches and conferences, to hospitality experiences and live music events.

The Warehouse Technician will join the Technical Warehouse team, overseeing the technical preparation of jobs from start to finish, working closely with our technical production team & ensuring equipment is delivered to events as specified, programmed, kit list complete, clearly labelled and ready to use.

The ideal candidate will have a strong audio background, with proficient ability in both programming and using lighting desks, knowledge of rigging and good knowledge of AV equipment.

The role will also require trouble-shooting and overseeing the technical maintenance of equipment, taking overall responsibility for ensuring all Smyle’s stock is kept in A1 condition and complies with inspection accreditation standards at all times.

The ideal candidate will have a flexible & adaptable approach, a professional manner & will be comfortable with assisting with the training and supervision of the Trainee Technicians.


Key Responsibilities

=        Oversee the warehouse technical equipment preparation & help lead on prep standards

=        Be proficient in using Easyjob (Smyle’s stock rental management system), Ensuring equipment is picked accurately

=        Help oversee the load and unload of vehicles safely & efficiently working to tight turnaround schedules, whilst ensuring that quality standards and deadlines are met

=        Inspect, report and repair faulty equipment

=        Build strong working relationships with all departments within the warehouse and develop a knowledge base for all disciplines, Audio, Lighting, Rigging, Power and AV

=        Offer telephone support to Smyle teams on site, as required, with regards to technical kit. Troubleshoot problems, offer immediate solutions to issues if possible or organise for replacement equipment to be sent to site last minute, whether Smyle owned or with sub-hires

=        Attend weekly team meetings

=        If required, help with rigging/de-rigging and operation of equipment on-site

=        Support other team members with a wide variety of technical and physical tasks

=        Ensure the Warehouse is always kept clean and tidy to allow for the safe and efficient preparation and return of equipment

=        In emergencies, be willing to collect and deliver equipment to/from site and to/from suppliers

=        Any other duties as required by the line manager commensurate with the role

=        Follow the guidelines of all company policies, both at HQ and on-site, paying particular attention to Health & Safety.

=        Actively participate in Smyle’s sustainability initiatives and observe the policies and procedures which underpin Smyle’s ISO20121 certification.


=        Experience of working in a similar role or as a qualified technician. A background in electronics, music, theatre, studios and/or event production would be favourable

=        Proven aptitude, passion and knowledge for audio, lighting, AV, Rigging and Power.

=        Familiar with associated equipment by Yamaha, L’Acoustics, Sennheiser, Avolites, Selecon, Analogue Way, Samsung

=        Up- to-date with current technologies including the ability to advise and recommend on equipment purchases

=        Hard working, punctual, flexible and enthusiastic with a desire to progress within both Smyle and the live events industry

=        A good knowledge of safe electrical practices

=        Must have the ability to work self-sufficiently, as well as be an active member of the team

=        Proactive & enthusiastic

=        Strong attention to detail

=        Previous warehouse experience would be useful, but is not essential

=        Full clean driving licence

Special considerations

A large proportion of the role is physically challenging; you must be willing and able to participate in the lifting equipment and loading/unloading of trucks

The core working hours are 8am to 5pm or 9 am to 6 pm, with a one hour unpaid lunch break. However, all employees must be willing to work evenings and some weekends, as required. A flexible approach to working hours is essential.
